St. Helena, CA - In fast and furious bidding in an over-flowing room of excited retailers, restaurateurs and wholesalers, 192 lots of one-of-a-kind wines from California's Napa Valley were sold at the eleventh annual Premiere Napa Valley? Andrea Immer, corporate director for beverage programs at Starwood Hotels & Resorts, who is one of nine women in the world with the title of Master Sommelier, agreed that the red wine trend continues to get a boost from the French paradox. Immer, the beverage director at New York's Windows on the World and the Rainbow Room before joining Starwood last year, said she did not think there was a difference in wine preference between men and women. You may not yet realize that Gary's Wine & Marketplace has more than wine, albeit a very fine selection of wine, but also an exquisite Cafe Menu. I had the pleasure of meeting and having a rather delightful food chat with former Executive Chef Loryn Dagon and Specialty Food Buyer Joseph Cammarata one afternoon. Both of these individuals come from impressive food backgrounds. Dagon worked as sous chef at SoHo33 in Madison and owned her own restaurant in Maine. Cammarata was most recently employed by Chelsea Market Baskets in New York. With the enthusiasm that these two have, and the confidence in their skills, that owner Gary Fisch has in them, it is sure to be a winning team! Read more...
